Feedback Workshop

Writing can be a solitary process, as we well know! This feedback workshop provides a safe and welcoming space to test ideas, share experiences and feel the support of fellow writers.

Why is feedback regarded as the most effective means of teaching creative writing? One important reason is that a writer can never come to their own work fresh. After all, we created our novels and short stories, so we can’t encounter them as a reader in a bookshop would, coming to the page completely new. Feedback can give us a sense of the reader experience. Then also, if you go on to become published, your publisher/agent will give you feedback as part of that process, so, to prepare you, my ultra-friendly workshop, Upstairs at The Old Alehouse in Truro, is the perfect place to try the method for the first time.

Guided by me on how to be most constructive, each participant will submit up to 3000 words, (of their novel-in-progress, or novella, short story, screenplay, play…,) with the option of including a synopsis. You will find yourself learning as much from giving feedback as from receiving it, as well as forming bonds with some great people! Feedback is a really interesting and rewarding experience. I know it can seem scary, but you’ll be amazed at how satisfying it is to have your work read carefully and thought about deeply by fellow writers.

The next feedback workshop is £75.00 for 8 weeks over the following dates:

It has been the greatest joy to see my adult students go from not writing at all outside of class to becoming published, winning competitions, and going on to study at MA level. Contact me with questions and to book.
